The client and the goal

The client is a small producer of high-quality pet food that sells online. We keep the brand anonymous. The product was excellent, but traffic to the site was limited, and low visibility in search results held back online sales.

The aim was to raise the brand's visibility in Google in a highly competitive category, using SEO and content marketing.

The challenge

Pet food is one of the most competitive segments in ecommerce. Large platforms, the own-label brands of retail chains and online shops that push hard on SEO make it difficult to break into Google's top 10.

For this client, many of the keywords that could have brought in valuable traffic ranked outside the first page of results. Despite a great product, traffic to the site stayed limited.

What we did

We combined technical SEO with content marketing. The work had four parts.

  1. Market and competitor analysis

We identified the key keywords the site should target and studied the strategies of the leaders in the category.

  2. On-site optimisation

We improved the structure of the site, the headings, and the category and product descriptions, so that each page matched what users search for more closely. This is the core of ecommerce SEO.

  3. Content expansion

We built a content strategy with expert articles, guides and an FAQ section. They answered users' questions and increased the authority of the site. Read more about SEO content.

  4. Internal linking and off-site work

We improved the links between pages on the site and began building a valuable profile of backlinks. See how we approach link building.
